Exercise is not as scary as you think

Have you been watching the Biggest Loser and now find yourself scared at the thought of exercise? Seeing contestants being dragged through mud, pushing themselves to the point of exhaustion  that they either vomit or collapse and having trainers demanding more. Don’t get me wrong challenges are great and motivating people to push themselves is important but displaying exercise as something that is not enjoyable and at times is a form of punishment is not the attitude we want society to adopt particularly with the rising inactivity levels of Australians.

Weight loss and winning the Biggest Loser takes more than just exercise

Although often portrayed as the biggest contributor to weight loss, exercise is just one piece of the weight loss puzzle.  Nutrition plays a key role in weight loss and having an understanding of nutrition and how to identify, prepare and maintain a healthy diet will see long term lifestyle change. It is this educational element of nutrition based information that seems to be missing from commercialised weight loss programs like the Biggest Loser. Informing the contestants to be mindful of what they are eating and giving them a meal plan is definitely beneficial and in most cases effective whilst they are in the house but what happens when they go home?
