TEMPTATION, HOW TO DEAL WITH IT!

Temptation, when trying to lose weight it seems to surround us. It’s the coffee shop down the road, the birthday cake being passed around the office, the chocolate isle in the supermarket, the wine, beer and cocktail menu, the takeaway menu when you don’t feel like cooking. It can be hard to resist these temptations but here at NuYu we teach our guests how to break temptation down and deal with it from a rational point of view.

Setting an achievable weight loss and lifestyle goal is the first key step, giving you a target or milestone to work toward.

Implementing rational thinking is next, look at the temptation you are facing and assess whether giving into it will be helping achieve or sabotaging your weight loss and lifestyle goal.

Acting and accepting is the final stage in dealing with temptation. When thinking rationally you will often choose to act against temptation but when emotional thinking is the driver submission to temptation often occurs. Whatever your action you should spend time acknowledging how you feel after you have acted, when you say no to temptation you will likely feel empowered and proud, when you give in to temptation you may feel disappointment. Both of these opposite emotions are important and can act as drivers for how you act next time you are faced with temptation – if you experienced empowerment you will likely choose to feel that way again, and if you felt disappointment you will likely choose to avoid feeling like that again. At no time do we want you to feel guilt for your actions, even if you did give in to temptation, rather we want you to use it as a learning experience and a driver for future decision making.

Regardless of whether you gave into temptation or overcame it, it all falls part of your weight loss journey, your experiences make you stronger, you learn from them and with some determination, the right mindset and support you will see you goals achieved and temptation will no longer stand in your way.
